Sarah Johanek, MS, LPC-IT

Licensed Professional Counselor – training
Psychotherapist
Mental Health Professional

After completing 5 years as a Montessori educator, I discovered my passion for social-emotional learning and processing with youth. This took me back to higher education and I earned a dual Masters in School Counseling and Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Mt. Mary University in Milwaukee. Prior to working as a psychotherapist, I worked as a school counselor in the Madison area for 3 years.

As a provider, my interests lie in supporting clients on their mental health journey with developmentally appropriate interventions and mutual respect. While I pull from many styles of therapy, I lean toward narrative and play therapies; often incorporating elements of DBT. I take a holistic approach to working with clients that looks at their whole story: Past, present, future, and the events and systems that have impacted their lives.

I am most passionate about working with children and adolescents who have experienced trauma, mood, and/or impulse disorders, and attachment concerns. Symptoms of these mental health conditions are often misunderstood as noncompliance or other behaviors, making it difficult to be successful and feel positively about the world. I focus on building skills that will help children and adolescents feel respected and hopeful, while unpacking and processing their experiences and struggles. In addition to working with children/adolescents ,I am enjoy working with families who are looking for additional support
